Notes on Rotary TV Auction:
Carolyn gave us information on how to login for TV auction site. Vendor information is there. Our past vendor list is available. She encouraged us to get more vendors to donate and hopes that we can get items worth 100,000$ this year. Some items like Alcohol is not accepted. Item description is very important to sell it. Only new items will be accepted this year.
Guest speaker James Jenkins: was introduced by Mike Hurry. He is deputy city clerk.
James presented on how to take part in the Municipal elections this year.
The Public can get more information by going online at
www.sarnia.ca/elections or via email or through several public information sessions.
James talked about the history of different voting system. Secret voting started in 1880s. Women were allowed to vote in Canada only after World War I.
This year we have internet and telephone voting system only.
Voting starts from 9am on October 11, 2018 and runs til 8pm on October 22, 2018.
Any device connected to internet can be used.
City Hall and other sites will have voting help centers too. These will be staffed with a Greeter, Election Officer and an Assistant. Retirement homes also will be visited. Security features were discussed. He showed us a video to help us understand how to vote via the internet.
Candidates’ names will be on the voters instruction letter that we should all receive before end of September.
